Westernport’s snapper action

There has been some sporadic snapper action out on Westernport. With inconsistent weather, the fishing fish has followed suite but if you’re out on the port then the snapper have been there for you to catch.

Customer Ben has just landed himself an absolutely thumping snapper fishing from his kayak. Ben was fishing the skinny channels up around Jam Jerrup over the weekend when he landed the monster. A strip of freshly caught squid on a 6/0 circle hook landed Ben this 91cm red, which weighed around the magical 20lb mark. This area has been a more consistent area to target a snapper especially if you time your tides correctly. Fishing the channels and drains that litter these northern mudflats can ben super productive especially if you time your fishing to a few hours either side of the top of the tide.

Customer Ray has also been up the top end of the port recently with some success. Ray and mate Graeme fished out from Yaringa over the weekend in search of their season starting snapper, and they weren’t disappointed. Ray’s nice fish weighed 6.1kg and took a squid ring on snelled 4/0 suicide hoks.
