Tuna out to tempt again
The tuna action hasn’t slowed up at all over the past week locally. There are still great numbers of fish just offshore from both bays. The hot area has definitely been east from Pyramid Rock and the adjacent bays. There have been tuna right in to around 25m but seem to be thicker out around the 50m line.
Out in the state’s west there has also been reports of barrel tuna starting to make their presence felt by anglers fishing out from Port Fairy and Portland.

Customers Mark and Cip fished out from Portland over the weekend where they went searching for barrels. The boys put in a big effort and were rewarded with 2 big tuna. Running a big spread of both skirts and hardbodies, both the fish took small redbait skirts rigged off the back of a spreader bar.

Customers Rob, Alan and Riley chased the tuna over the weekend. Young Riley at 10 years of age landed his first tuna all by himself on spin gear. All fish took shallow running Halco Laser Pro 190’s, and were caught around the Cape Paterson area in approximately 35m of water.

Customers Dan and Will both fished out from the Western Entrance over the weekend. The boys caught a good bag of fish, with the most productive lures being redbait coloured Samaki Pacemaker hardbodies. The larger size lure worked best running close to the boat.
