September snapper success
While the snapper mayhem has yet to begin – there have been a trickle of reports from those fishing the still-cold waters of Westernport. While the water temperature across the bay are still a fraction cooler for this time of year, there are slightly warmer pockets that the fish have shuffled into, as they do en routine most years.

Customer Izzy fished out from Corinella recently in search of an early snapper with mate Aaron. They weren’t disappointed and landed a nice fish of around 4.5kg. Fishing baits of squid along the shallower feeder channels that drain off the warmer mudflats was the technique of scoring this fish, with another of similar size lost also. The hot bite time was last light.
Customer Ken also landed some nice snapper fishing in the port recently. Ken landed a nice fish of around 5.5kg fishing a similar location near Corinella in 6.5m of water. Ken caught this fish on freshly caught couta. Ken also landed a few smaller fish around 2.5kg fishing the flood tide in 12m out from Eagle rock the day before.
