Early season reds

Not long now and most of Melbourne’s fishing community will be thinking all things red. While it is early days so far, the snapper are normally trickling their way into both bays and can well and truly be caught. The wind and rain at this time of year normally gets these fish going, although not quite the mania that can be had later in the season. All this said, NOW is the time to prepare and gear yourself up for the season ahead, as it will roll around sooner rather than later!

Brett from Reedy’s Rigs has been on the search for a few early season snapper and has been doing the hard yards in Westernport Bay. Like the saying goes though ‘no effort no reward’ Brett has landed a few nice fish already which is a good sign for the season ahead.

Customer Jamie has been having a look around the Eastern side of Westernport over the past week in search of a snapper of two, and he hasn’t been disappointed. Jamie landed 2 nice fish near Reef Island just recently on baits of freshly caught calamari and yakka.
