Kingfish going crazy

The kingfish have well and truly made their presence felt locally over the past week, both offshore and inside Western Port itself. While the action can be on and off, the fish have been around and on the larger side of things. There have been many kingfish landed around the metre mark over the past week or so, with a mixture caught on both bait and lure.

Customer Jade stocked up on some new kingfish gear during the week including a lighter casting outfit and some different lure options. Jade got his gear sorted during the afternoon, and within 2 hours he had some luck. Jade fished out from Lysaughts along the edge of the banks and managed 3 fish – all on sluggos. The fish were all solid fish ranging up to 10.5kg. Slow trolling sluggos was the most effective method.

Kosta from Hooked Up magazine also fished the top of the north arm last week, in search of kingfish. Kosta worked the Lysaughts region with poppers and stickbaits, and slow trolled baits. With fish moving about the banks and channel edges the tension was high. After getting broken off by a few fish, Kosta managed to land a nice fish on a slow trolled garfish.
