Whiting

Westernport’s whiting fishing continues to run hot. The run of fish are still thick in all corners of the port, with some quality fish still getting about.

Customer Jarrod and mate Matt both fished the top end of the port late last week. The boys worked the weed edges and drop offs around 3m of water and bagged some nice fish. Fishing these areas on the start of the run out tide was the most successful, with Mustad light gauge circle hooks holding the pipi and squid cocktails on perfectly.

Customer Jade fished out from Hastings for a nice feed of whiting during the week. Jade found that mussel and pipi were the best baits when fished on flash-rigged hooks. Slowly winding the baits back along the bank edges was the best method of getting interest from the fish – with most of the fish coming from the Hastings side of the middle spit.

Customer Matthew fished out from Cowes boat ramp with his son over the weekend where they got into some nice whiting. The boys fished a mixture of pipi and squid for bait and found the very start of the runout tide to be the most conducive time.
