While the weather hasn’t really been the greatest for offshore jaunts over the past week, some anglers have been making the most of the small windows that have been there. The local tuna have been around but not in absurd numbers, but they should be hanging around pretty solidly over the next month or so.

Customer Daniel stopped by the shop recently to gear up, and did a trip offshore with Gawaine Blake. Daniel and Gawaine got into some fish offshore from Westernport. A variety of 6 inch skirts did the job, with UV flash and chartreuse being two of the better colours. The trick in getting the bite in the calm conditions was to run them behind a bird and squid style teaser.

Customer Michael jumped over the side and hit a couple of fish offshore just recently. Michael was out from the Western Entrance and found that there were a few tuna about, but not in giant numbers. He did notice boats driving straight past them though, with the slightest ‘wind lane’ pattern on the surface giving them away.
