Port Phillip

There’s been some mixed reports coming from Port Phillip, with most of them taking place in the southern end of the bay where many anglers are holidaying. The whiting and squid reports have been great, with a few also starting to look about for kingfish inside also.

Young fishing apprentice Nik had a ball down at Mornington Pier recently where he caught a couple of nice whiting, with the largest going 43cm! Funny enough, all of the fish were caught on pieces of pilchard during the run out tide. Can’t complain about a couple of them from the pier!

Customer Danny and friends had a fish down near Sunnyside beach in Mornington where squid and gars were the targets. Fishing 2.0 and 2.5 size jigs in the shallows was successful, with bright green and orange the standout colour tones. Fishing tiny silverfish under a 12g weighted float in around a fine berley trail got the attention of the gars also – with the best area being around the 4m depth.

Customer Michelle fished with friend Caitlin around the Rye and Rosebud region of the bay recently where some nice squid and whiting were caught. Black Magic squid snatcher jigs in natural brown/greens in size 3.0 were the most effective. Black Magic Whiting snatcher rigs were used to catch the feed of King George, with small strips of squid used over the top of pipi.

Customer Chris fished with mate ark and his son Austin around Sorrento recently in search of some squid. The guys did well and ended up with their bag of nice squid – with most of them coming from the shallows around ‘the sisters’. Shimano jetboost jigs and Yamashita neon bright colours were the most effective.
