Port Phillip snapper going strong

Port Phillip has been fishing consistently for snapper the past week or so, when the weather has allowed anglers to get out. With plentiful onshore winds this Spring, the fish have been biting well, and there has been a good amount of fish in the 2.5 – 5kg size range.

Customer Jean got amongst the snapper out in the bay recently. Jean fished out from Mordialloc and found some nice fish in 14m of water. The most successful baits for Jean were silver whiting fished on twin snelled 6/0 suicide hooks. The 6/0’s worked better on the larger whiting.

Customer Andrew had a great session off Mt Eliza recently. Andrew fished in 18m of water on sundown, with fish to 2kg in good numbers and fish to around 4kg hitting the baits as the light changed. Pillies, whiting and squid all caught fish.

Customer Ashley has done alright on the snapper this week also. Ashley launched from Carrum with a mate at around 6:30sm and headed out to some artificial structure marks towards Frankston, in around 16m. The boys landed 2 nice fish at 5.5kg and 6kg, both of which took silver whiting fished on 6/0 snelled rigs.
