Surf salmon still going super
There have still been heaps of salmon being caught along the beaches both locally and out an hour or so from the outer suburbs. Most of the more local beaches such as Kilcunda, Williamsons and Inverloch have been producing fish – while Gunnamatta has also been excellent a bit closer to home. Around the bays many of the exposed piers have been producing fish during rougher condition also. Both bait and lure anglers have been getting in to the action.

Customer Dino has been having a ball fishing from Gunnamatta. Dino has been fishing with his son and they have noticed more productive bites from the fish nearing the top of the tide. Dino has been fishing a paternoster rig usually with two different baits to maximise options. Berleying hard on the beach has helped lift his catch rate also.

Dino has also fished Frankston pier over the past week and has caught numbers of fish. Fishing bluebait on a paternoster rig has been his preferred method, but spinning both metal lures and soft plastics have also worked well for him. Matching the lure profile and size to the local bait has been important, as giant lures rarely catch when the fish are fixated on a small baitfish.
