Ready, Set, TROUT!
Many anglers are hanging for the start of trout season 2022, as last year’s season really didn’t get off to the greatest start. While there will be plenty of water around in all of the rivers and lakes don’t let this discourage you as the trout love these conditions. Fishing heavier, deeper methods will give you your best approach at these fish, so make sure you carry a bigger mix of lures and bait rigging options this open.
There have already been trout stocking programs underway for both suburban lakes and premier rivers such as the Goulburn. Customer Ismail has already been getting into the stonker trout in the local suburban lakes. Ismail has been catching the solid rainbows out near Pakenham on aggressive coloured lures. Fishing soft plastics in hot pink, and larger UV reactive hardbodies has been the best way to get the attention of the fish.

Staff member John and customer Ismail fished Karkarook Park during the week in search of some of the stonker rainbows. The boys fished a coarse method and landed some nice rainbows on specialist trout dough and powerbait. Fishing these dough baits requires a certain amount of finesse in rigging techniques and gear, which can all be easily accessed through talking to the guys in store.

There re plenty of lures and accessories required for successful trout fishing, and these depending greatly on fishing conditions. Having a good mix of lure options to cover all bases is the name of the game, as you don’t want to be left standing in the middle of the river without the correct lure!
