Eildon is proving itself time and time over that it is an excellent premier fishing region for both trout and native species. The region has been fishing well, from the smaller streams flowing in and around the Goulburn, to the pondage and further up into the lake itself. The hot fishing should continue into the holiday period with all species still on offer.
Around the pondage customer Jozef and his wife Margaret have been enjoying successful trout fishing on fish to around 2kg. Jozef and Margaret have been
coarse fishing the pondage using specialist trout dough and berley along with a few different colours in powerbait. Fishing close to the pondage bridge
during the week they landed brown trout to around 2kg and lost a couple more than were larger. One of the main bait standouts lately has been the new
'Captain America' colour powerbait.
The main lake has been fishing well for a mix of species, with trout still moving about the edges early morning and late afternoon, with the natives eagerly
feeding also. Fishing the northern end of the lake has been effective for the goldern perch, with fish to around 55cm being caught on both bait and
lure. Customer John fished the lake and scored a nice yella in his most recent session, with the successful lure being a small cast hardbody. Fishing
vibes and plastics around the isolated standing trees has also been an effective way to find these fish.
John also turned his attention to the cod in the southern end of he lake and he wasn't disappointed. John landed two nice fish to around 60cm both on the
cast and in the heavy structure. Fishing buoyant hardbodies deep in the timber, the hits were hard and fast. Lure such as the Megabass Big-M 7.5 have
been effective when bumped through fallen timber along the edges of the shoreline.
