Reports of King George whiting have starting to slowly trickle through as the water temperature creeps up in Westernport Bay. Most of the reports have been coming from around the middle spit and further down towards Flinders. Most of the whiting being caught at the minute are excellent size, and numbers seem to be good early in the season.
James from Unreel Fishing Charters has recently been searching around for the whiting and has had some good catches for customers around the middle spit. Deeper water around 8m has been good for quality whiting on baits of mussel, squid and pipi. The shallower water has been holding smaller school sized fish.
