Customer Justan had another shot on the snapper last week and landed a ripper of around 4kg, fishing south from Mornington in 19m of water. Justan used freshly caught squid which the chunky red took at 9.30 in the morning. Justan also hooked two other fish in a short session.

Customers fishing around Black Rock have also caught some nice fish up to 2kg, with the average size about 30cm. Customer Ronnie caught a heap of pinkies last weekend in 9m of water, with the biggest around 38cm. Pipi and small pilchard pieces were the most effective baits.

Customer Charlie fished with his nephews off Ricketts point on Saturday morning, where they picked up 20 pinkies up to 37cm on small pieces of mullet.

Staff member Dylan took advantage of the conditions today and did a quick pre-work Snapper session in Port Phillip with his Dad. Knowing that the fish had been going off pretty early they got out and set up a good berley trail in 17m off Chelsea well before light, however the fish didn't come on until 7am.

A quick half hour frenzy before heading in saw a good school move through, with 4 fish between 1.5-3.5kg kept. All fish took whole silver whiting and were loaded full of cubed pillies they'd picked up from the berley trail.

Sorrento pier has been the spot for Squid over the last week, with heaps of quality Squid being caught. Customer Chris sent us a text saying has been getting a heap of Squid off the pier at night using size 3.5 Gancraft jigs in the Aussie designed colours, along with a few Yozuri jigs in red base patterns.

There looks to be some good land-based Snapper weather coming up later in the week, with strong South-Westerlies bringing the fish in close. If you're a keen landbased angler Friday through to Saturday night look the best for you. Customers fishing the Northern section of the bay are doing well on Snapper up to 5kg.

Customer Jose has been fishing for Snapper landbased around the northern end of the bay and has caught some nice Snapper to 4.5kg. He sent us a photo of the couple he caught from Williamstown during the week on pilchard and squid baits. He has been using Snapper Snatcher style rigs because of the flash they put out in the murky water and says that they're working a treat for him.

There have been some nice sized Snapper getting caught in Port Phillip at the minute, not very much in the way of numbers but good size none the less.

Good customer Zoran has been having a look around for some early season fish off Carrum and has caught his first couple of fish. Both weighing over 4kg they are lovely fish considering it's the first week in September.

Zoran's fish took both squid and pillies. Customers David and Bill have also caught some good Snapper this week, fishing the 16-18m area off Seaford/Frankston. The guys have been fishing a small structure mark and have caught all fish on Californian Squid.

Every fish that has come to the boat has been 3-6kg, and they have noted that every fish they have kept have had small Squid in them also. This is a must-have for all Snapper anglers.

A new large pellet Snapper berley which is formulated with Squid extract. It can be loose-fed amongst cubed pillies or deployed in a berley bucket or pot, which will be sure to get the Reds going!

The Patterson River has been fishing well for Bream lately, with water clarity starting to clean up. At present the river is still running with a murky green/brown stain to it, but there are still plenty of quality Bream on offer. The best bet is to fish with either Prawns, Scrubworms, or live freshwater Yabbies. Fish these baits with as little weight as possible to ensure the fish don't feel too much resistance. If lure fishing, using small soft plastics in 2-4inch range along with small vibes and sinking hardbodies is a good method. Try and use a good quality scent or attractant with your baits and lures as well, to help the fish fish your offering in the dirty water. Customers Daniel and Cam have been braining the Bream down there recently, using the above mentioned styles of lures.

Yes, you heard right! Snapper in winter in Port Phillip! The fish have been quite good through the last few months, and are still there for anglers to catch. Fishing out wide from anywhere along the peninsula is the shot, depths of 20-22m are the go.

Customer Mark has been smashing them, and he got a few more nice fish last week. Sitting in 21m off Mornington with baits of pilchard and squid, Mark bagged fish from 4.5 - 6.5kg. Mark also got a few small Gummies in the same area on the same baits.

Pinkie Snapper have been on the chew around the Docklands and lower Yarra recently in big numbers.  Customer Liang has been fishing for them in the Docks and has been catching some quality fish.  Using pilchard and prawn he has caught fish to 3.5kg, with late afternoon being the prime time.  At the same time using these methods you can also be a good chance of a Bream or Mulloway also.

Good customer Jacques has just emailed us with some more Snapper he's caught recently, with 2 rippers of 4.5kg.  Pilchard and Squid are still the best baits, and Jacques caught these fish in 22m off Mornington on a foggy Monday morning.  Port Phillip is still worth a crack if you're into all things Snapper, just make sure you pack the thermos for a warm cuppa!

The Bream in most of Melbourne's estuaries will bite well after the recent rain we've had, with lots of food flushed in for them and murky water giving them a bit of cover to feed under.  Good customer Robin normally fishes for the Bream in Patterson River and normally gets a few.  He has been fishing around the river entrance lately, where the discoloured water meets the clean, tidal water with good success.  He has been using baits with lots of scent to help the fish in the dirty water.  He normally fishes with KL1/0 circle hooks and runs a long leader and simple running sinker rig.
